NMAS Workshop - Steps Toward Self Advocacy Saturday, September 18, 2010 | 10 am - 12 pm Unitarian Universalist Church - SW Corner of Carlisle and Comache NE The Center for Self Advocacy is a place for people with developmental disabilities where they can work, learn and teach others about self determination, speaking up for yourself and leadership among other things. The Center is a hub of activity aimed at teaching self advocates things they need to know to run their own lives, make their own decisions and be as independent as possible. ==============================================================
Cynthia Berkheimer has been a self advocate trainer and employee of the Center for two years. She has spoken at many conferences, internationally, nationally and locally. She has been a member of People First for many years both in Arizona and New Mexico. Cynthia lives on her own, is a performer in a theater group and a board member with Best Buddies.
Daniel Ekman is a VISTA volunteer at the Center. He will be with the Center for another year and is a great inspiration to all who know him. Daniel is a special education teacher and very close to completing his Master’s degree in Special Education. ==========================================================
