Albuquerque Business First honored 40 of the state’s best young professionals at its 40 Under Forty event Thursday evening.

About 500 people attended the event, which included cocktails and dinner, at Sandia Resort & Casino.

The honorees included three young professionals under the age of 30. The 40 Under Forty judges picked two 40 Under Forty Most Outstanding award recipients from the group: one in the under-30 category and one in the under-40 group.

Business First took nominations from the public for 40 Under Forty. We received more than 450 of them. We asked the nominees to complete an application with information for our judging and provide letters of reference.

Three judges, all 40 Under Forty alumni, evaluated the applicants based on their professional achievements, their leadership and their community involvement. The judges did not vote on nominees with whom they had close ties.

The judges this year were Annemarie Ciepiela Henton of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists, Cynthia Schultz of Bradbury Stamm Construction and Andrew Valencia of Poms and Associates.

Business First’s 40 Under Forty was sponsored by Wells Fargo and the University of New Mexico Anderson School of Management. Acton Audio Visual was Albuquerque Business First’s event partner, and CliffDweller Digital was our production partner
